This screening is part of an international research programme called Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet. TrialNet is currently screening relatives of people with type 1 diabetes.
Researchers are conducting this study to understand more about the development of type 1 diabetes and look at the ways to delay or prevent type 1 diabetes.
Through a blood test doctors can determine if an individual may be at risk for diabetes years before symptoms appear.
Family members of people with type 1 diabetes – parents, children, brothers and sisters are eligible to be screened. Cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren may also be eligible.
