Advance Q & A

Q:

What differentiates the Hypoguard Advance™ from other meters already on the market?

A:

Every person who needs to monitor his/her blood glucose has individual preferences. That is why there are many options in the market. The Hypoguard Advance is the perfect solution for all who want a system that offers ease-of-use, convenience, and accuracy at an affordable price. In addition, the Hypoguard Advance is the only blood glucose meter that comes in a hard carry case for ultimate protection while the user is on the go. Testing can be performed while leaving the meter in the convenient case.

Q:

Is the Hypoguard Advance Blood Glucose Meter whole blood or plasma referenced?

A:

Advance is plasma referenced.

Q:

What is the difference between whole blood and plasma referenced results?

A:

While all blood glucose meters use whole blood to measure glucose, lab equipment uses only the plasma portion of blood. Some meters display blood glucose results as a plasma measurement to make it easier to compare with lab results. Neither a whole blood measurement or a plasma measurement is more accurate than the other; they are just different methods of measuring the same thing. But because of the difference in sample types, you should understand that plasma referenced test results are about 12 percent higher than whole blood test results.

Q:

Are strips and controls included in the Hypoguard Advance Blood Glucose Monitoring Systems?

A:

Yes. The value-priced kit also includes the ancillary items.

Q:

What types of batteries are used in the Hypoguard Advance?

A:

The Hypoguard Advance uses a CR2032 3V battery. The battery can be purchased in most drug stores, mass merchandise stores, discount retail stores, and in some convenience stores and supermarkets.

Q:

Is the memory lost when batteries are removed?

A:

No. You may have to reset the time and date if you cannot switch the battery out within 30 seconds.

Q:

How does the 24 hour military clock work?

A:

The 24 hour clock is identical to the 12 hour clock that we use in North America for the first 12 hours of the day. From 1:00pm you can see a difference in format. Instead of starting at 1:00 and counting from 1:00pm to 12:00pm again, the 24 hour clock continues counting the hours of the day up to 24 hours.

E.g.:
12:00am is the same 12:00 in both formats. Then the 24 hour clock counts 13:00, 14:00, 15:00 and so on. The 12 hour clock starts counting from 1:00 and adding pm: 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm.
For the second half of the day, you add 12 to the 12 hour clock (from 1:00pm through 12:00pm) and 1:00am through 12:00am stay the same. (See further explanation in user manual, page 10.)

Q:

How do I turn the Hypoguard Advance Meter on and off?

A:

You can turn the meter on by inserting a strip or by pushing the large button on the far
right – the on/off button. You can turn the meter off by pressing the on/off button. Also, Hypoguard Advance has automatic on/off. Two (2) minutes after the last action it will turn off automatically.

Q:

How do I code the Hypoguard Advance Meter?

A:

Each new vial of test strips comes with a code chip. Make sure that the meter is off and insert the code chip into the code chip port located on the back of the meter.

Q:

What is the sample size of the Hypoguard Advance Meter?

A:

A very small sample of just 3μL.

Q:

What is the testing time for the Hypoguard Advance Meter?

A:

You will receive fast and accurate results in fifteen seconds.

Q:

Can you add a second drop of blood to the Hypoguard Advance Test Strips?

A:

You cannot add a second drop of blood. Make sure to always have a sufficient drop of blood prior to applying it to the test strip.

Q:

How do I know if the test strip was inserted correctly?

A:

You will see a code number in the display along with a flashing icon indicating you can now apply a sample.

Q:

How do I access the 14-day averaging feature?

A:

Press the on/off button to turn the meter on. Press up button or down button to display the last result in memory. Press up or down again to see your average.

Q:

Can the Hypoguard Advance Meter be used for alternate site testing (AST)?

A:

No. The Advance has not been approved for AST.
